Episode One

Sakura’s Point of View

Beep! Beep!My alarm clock went off at the appointed time. I turned it off drowsily, looking at my calendar. Then I realized what day it was. Today was the day that my class of Hogosha School let out. I wonder what district I’ll be guarding? And who my comrade will be…I thought, crossing my fingers for Tomoyo or Meiling. But the chance of me getting one of my best friends was slim to none. Hopefully they’d be nice, at least.

Oh, crap! I should’ve introduced myself by now! Ahem. I am Sakura Kinomoto, age 17. My occupation is a Guardian in training, but not for long! Today, I’d be assigned a comrade, a district, and a ruling group. A comrade is someone who stays by your side always. Usually, if it’s a boy and a girl, they end up falling in love. A district is the vicinity of one of the worlds that you are given the care of. So, you’re responsible for it; defeat all of the monsters and such. And the ruling group is the group you are assigned to. Two people alone can’t rule a district, but five can. Two comrades and a warrior. My brother, Toya, got his district a while ago. His comrade is Yukito Tsukishiro, and the other two people he works with are Kaho Mizuki, who he had a major crush on, Sonomi Daidouji was her partner, and Yue Reed was their warrior. That’s an example of how it works… oh, yeah! Their district is Youkai… it’s a dangerous place.

I yanked open the dorm door, only to see Tomoyo and Meiling emerging, too. We each had our own rooms in the girl’s building, and there was lots of partying all the time. We even tried to sneak into the boys’ dorm one time, but we were caught. It’s never a dull moment!

“Hey, Sakura, Meiling.” Tomoyo greeted as she locked her door. Her face was calm, as it usually was, but her eyes told me she was barely able to contain her excitement.

“Good morning,” Meiling and I said together. “So, who do you want to be your comrade? Guy-wise, of course,” I said, almost forgetting to lock my door behind me.

“TOTALLY Syaoran Li!!” Meiling screamed immediately. She was totally infatuated with this guy. A lot of girls were… but he was pretty average, I guess. I’ve never really talked to him, though. Don’t take my word for it. “It’s too bad I’m a warrior… I don’t get a partner…”

“Eriol Hiiragazawa is cool, in my opinion,” Tomoyo replied, blushing ever so slightly.

“It’s kinda too bad Yukito is Toya’s partner… but I like Keroberos, too.” I said. I didn’t really have many feelings for Keroberos, but we’ve talked when he was in human form, and he’s cool.

We shuffled down the hall, down the stairs, and out the door. The dormitories, by the way, were suspended by magic. They float in the air, where you can’t even see any planets. When we step out, we have to use our powers to get to the main school. I took a flying leap out of the building, taking out the appropriate FLY card. “FLY!!” I yelled, setting the magic free. My pink staff grew wings, and I flew to the main house. Meiling, being a warrior, had to use her jumping power and strength. (Sometimes she gave up and asked someone for help ) We landed, and my card dispersed. My staff went back to a key. I waited for the other two to land, and then we realized what time it was. We were almost late for class!!

“DASH!!” I said, running insanely fast down the hallway. When I reached the classroom, Meiling and Tomoyo were right behind me. I slid open the door, and the three of us walked inside. Phew! I thought when I saw the kids chattering and such. We aren’t late! “Let’s grab a seat over there,” I said, pointing to some free chairs. We sat down and began gossiping happily, until someone tapped my shoulder. “Huh?” I said, turning around.

I gasped when I saw Syaoran Li standing behind me. I heard Meiling eep. “Er… hi.” I said.

He glared down at me. “You’re in my seat.”

“But class hasn’t started yet.”

“So? It’s still my seat.”

“Can’t you just wait like five minutes? Not even?”

“No, I really can’t.”

Now his smarmy tone was starting to piss me off. “I’m sitting here until the bell rings and that’s final!” His face was calm, but his eyes were taken aback. I swear, if I get him as a comrade…RING.

My face went kind of red. Syaoran was holding back laughter. The bell for class had rung. My fight was for nothing. Staying silent, I got up and marched to my seat, not looking back at that…that… rrgh! Now I was mad. Why did he have to freak like that, just over a chair he’d get in a minute? Jerk, jerk, jerk, idiot, jerk, jerk, jerk, fool, and so on…

Mr. Terada came in, signaling for class to start. He was a teacher because he lost his comrade and his powers. His comrade had died in a battle with a king troll; Mr. Terada had fumed with revenge and went somewhere no one should ever go; novasu. He went to the pack of trolls, and sent them all on a rampage, never to come back again; by doing this, he nearly destroyed his district. Because of this, the council took away his powers, and almost his memories. But he pleaded to stay with magic surroundings, not to become a regular citizen. And thus, he was sent to be a teacher, and he loved it. Anyway, off topic much, so back to the story.

The windows and doors went black; if you stepped out of class now, you’d fall into nothingness. He slammed his hands on the desk. “Today is a very special day for you. You are all either going to fail and start school all over again, at your age, being humiliated, er, everywhere -wide,” he smiled warmly at the comment. Clearly, he didn’t care for the people in this class that failed. “Or you will ‘graduate’, get your comrade, your ruling group and district, and live happily ever after, maybe, protecting the people and places of your district.”

“Yea yea, get on with the naming ceremony!!” Someone yelled. Mr. Terada was taken aback, but recovered quickly. “All right then, I will,” he replied. He clapped his hands, and an assistant (that could use magic) came running into the room. He muttered something, and the whole classroom changed in a puff. The chairs and desks jumped, and we were all thrown a little, but landed back in our seats. The room ceremonial, bright colours everywhere. I looked around, amazed, all anger at Syaoran Li forgotten… for now.

The class was suddenly buzzing with excitement. In order to calm us down, Mr. Terada threw a rock at one of the students, who yelped, “Ow! OMG, there’s blood!” But no one bothered to help him, afraid they would end up with the same fate.

Mr. Terada cleared his throat. “The ceremony will now begin! You will get your comrade. When that is finished, and you are all sitting together with your comrade, you will be assigned your ruling group and district. No trading allowed for any of these. Beggars aren’t choosers,” he added with a strange gaze in his eyes, remembering how he got his own fate. Then the festival began.

“Tomoyo Daidouji. Your comrade will be Eriol Hiiragazawa!” Tomoyo was flushed, but happy. Eriol came to sit beside her, leaving a pouty Syaoran alone. Tomoyo and Eriol had been friends for a long time, but Tomoyo had liked him as more than a friend for a longer time. She was pretty good at concealing, though I think Eriol sees right through her.

As my mind wandered, I began to remember my anger towards Syaoran. I mean, who knew there was a jerk that bad…!? Not me!!! I was pulled out of my thoughts by hearing my name.

“Sakura Kinomoto.” My heart skipped a beat as my palms got sweaty. How exciting!! “Your comrade shall be…” Th-thmp, th-thmp… “Syaoran Li.”

My mouth fell to the floor. WHAT!?!!?!?!?!? What the hell is WRONG with you!?!?!? I wanted to scream. Syaoran was shocked, too, but made no attempt to move to my side. He sat there, legs crossed, arms folded. I huffed. I got up out of my seat and went to site beside him. We had a glaring contest the rest of the time.

“Syaoran Li and Sakura Kinomoto, your ruling group consists of Tomoyo Daidouji and Eriol Hiiragazawa. Your warrior shall be Meiling Li. Your district is Tomoeda.”

We were a bit happier about that, but not by much. I took a good look at him. He was good-looking all right, but still an idiot. I mean seriously, it was just a freakin’ chair!! ARRGH!!!

The others met us happily, except for Meiling, who was in shock. She was happy we were all a group forever, but I don’t think she was too happy about the whole Syaoran+Me thing. She probably thinks it’ll end up being Syaoran+Me equals Heart. NEVER!!

This was going to be hard, working with Mr. Butt-face…No matter how cute he was.
